Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Conor O'Sullivan and I am a recent college graduate from Ireland.
I am a UX Designer who loves to solve complex problems and helps create beautiful products that exceed our users and clients needs (and desires!). UX design is looking after the User Experience of a product - ensuring it’s easy to use, that the user is happy and that they will return to use the product time and time again.
How did you get here?
I studied Digital Media Design at the University of Limerick which encompassed designing for sound, video and digital products. I knew I wanted to be a UX Designer from my first year in college onwards, so any project I did I tried to incorporate as many UX elements as possible.
During my placement, I worked with an e-learning solutions company creating online learning platforms and I just recently worked with a local start up where I helped them redesign their taxi application.
How do you find that translates into your role at Studio Graphene?
Well, I was doing the exact same job as I'm doing now - just by myself! Now I get to work with people of a similar background and passion, who I can collaborate with and learn a lot from.
How is Studio Graphene different from other agencies you’ve worked with / for?
Typically, we get to choose what type of projects we want to work on (and feel we can do our best work on) and we often get to design a product from scratch, which is a great privilege for a designer!
What’s the most exciting piece of kit / software / design thinking you’ve discovered recently?
There is an application called DUSK that allows you to have one free beer a day in random locations - and I’ve just found out that Studio Graphene designer Eloy worked on the original version!
What do you think the ‘next big thing’ in tech is going to be?
Autonomous cars will be the next big thing.
How worried are you about the rise of the machines?
I am not worried one bit about machine learning, I would love my dinner handed to me by a robot.
What's your spirit animal?
“The tiger spirit animal symbolizes primal instincts, unpredictability, and ability to trust yourself. By affinity with this spirit animal, you may enjoy dealing with life matters spontaneously, trusting your intuition and acting fast when needed.”
I agree with my spirit animal as I am very unpredictable and I personally think I deal with matters spontaneously...but effectively.
